What does the abbreviation TIA mean in Medical terms
What does the abbreviation TIA mean in Medical terms - The medical abbreviation "TIA" stands for "transient ischemic attack". A TIA is often referred to as a "mini-stroke" and occurs when there is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain. This blockage may cause symptoms similar to a stroke, such as weakness or numbness in the face, arms, or legs, difficulty speaking or understanding language, and vision problems.
However, unlike a stroke, the symptoms of a TIA typically resolve within a few minutes to hours and do not cause permanent brain damage. TIAs are often considered warning signs that there may be an underlying issue with the patient's blood vessels or circulation and may increase the risk of a more severe stroke in the future.
